Seeing Brooke

The following is being copied from my sister-in-law's Facebook post yesterday:

We saw Brooke last night. I cried of course and she sniffled a bit lol. She saw Tommy first and yelled "Dad? Dad!!!" and hugged him. Cody and I were down playing with a silly group of 3 and 4 year old boys and girls so he brought Brooke to us. We hung out for a bit and asked if we could take her. They said we have to talk to the social worker today. Then we asked if we could take her to dinner and bring her back but they said they couldnt let her without permission.
It brought tears to my eyes.  Please Pray.  They are so close, but so far and there are many obstacles.  God is faithful and will take care of them all.  I will be so happy to have my family back in the US again!

Getting Ready for the 12 Days of Christmas Tags Series

Starting tomorrow, I plan to be making Christmas tags for the next 12 days.  Now I will be making LOTS of tags over the next couple of weeks because that is this month's theme for my card exchange club as well.  This series is separate though.  To follow along with this series, look for the title: "12 Days of Christmas Tags - Day 1", etc.  I am hoping to be able to add a link button so that you can make your own version of tags and link them back each day.  If I am able to do this, there will be a giveaway at the end of the 12 days.

So what's so special about this tag series?  This isn't your normal tag series.  I'm not trying to replicate Tim Holtz either (though I will be following along on his tags).  This series is about giving and will follow the theme "The 12 Days of Christmas" song.  This is something my family has done for several years and I will tell you the story about how it started on the first day.

If you are playing along, you will need a few things.  Now I don't want you to necessarily go out and buy stuff to make yours look like mine.  I just want you to have fun.  The message on each tag is based on the tags found here.  I discovered these tags last year and I really liked the way they were phrased and the ideas that went along with them.  Last year I just printed the tags as they are and cut them out.  This year, I plan to re-type the phrases (including the copyright information to give credit where it is due) on my own paper and make each tag.  I will be using the "Joys of the Season" Cricut cartridge as well as an assortment of papers and embellishments.  So grab 12 tags and come and play along!

Back at it.... I hope

I feel like I have been MIA for awhile.  I think my family feels the same way.  The last 4 days were very long at work and I've been pretty swamped.  I'm really behind where I would like to be right now but hoping to catch up soon.  I have designed a baby announcement (for someone else - NOT ME!), and will post it once I have time to start actually making them.  There seems to be a minor glitch with my Imagine, and I haven't had time to figure it out yet but think its probably just time to get a new black cartridge.  At least I hope that's the problem!  I plan to start the 12 Days of Christmas Tags series tomorrow.  I hope I have time to pull that together.  Be checking back for these fun things.

Leftovers

I think the best part of all the food on Thanksgiving is all of the leftovers.  In fact, I like the things I make from leftover turkey better than I like the original turkey.  I decided to post what I made for dinner tonight with leftover turkey.  Now I will warn you that I don't measure the ingredients.  I go by what looks right.  I will try to "guestimate" the amounts I used.
Ingredients:
Left over turkey or chicken - chopped (I'm guessing I used 5-6 cups)
Sour Cream - large dollop (1/3 c?)
Large can of green chili enchilada sauce
1 package of tortillas
1 package of shredded cheese - (I used the value pack that was about 9.5oz of the Mexican variety)
Directions:
Heat oven to 375.  Pour enough of the enchilada sauce into the bottom of a casserole dish to coat the bottom of the pan.  Mix the turkey, sour cream and a handful of cheese together.  Add enough of the enchilada sauce to moisten the mixture but you don't want it too wet or soupy.  Heat the tortillas in the microwave for 30-60 seconds to make them flexible.  Place part of the turkey mixture into each tortilla and roll it and place into the pan.  Once the pan is full.  Pour more enchilada sauce over the top of the rolled enchiladas (I would guess about 1 cup here).  Sprinkle more cheese over the top of the enchiladas and bake until the cheese is melted and the sauce is bubbly.  Mine probably took 20-30 minutes.

This filled the pan as well a a tiny pan that I put in the freezer for a day when I'm at work.  When I freeze these, I add a little extra sauce so that the enchiladas aren't dry when they are thawed and cooked.  I freeze them before baking them so all my family will need to do is thaw, bake, and serve.

What are some things you like to do with leftovers?

Black Friday

I started Black Friday shopping years ago and look forward to it every year.  There have been so many years that I have been able to find nice Christmas gifts that I could afford because I was willing to stand in line and wait for them.  Typically, I have someone buy a paper (or I go get one if I'm not cooking) and then late on Thanksgiving afternoon and evening, I peruse all the ads and decide what I'm willing to go looking for.  This year was a little different.  I perused all the ads and found a few things that looked interesting, but I really didn't feel like getting up early and driving to the city.  Instead, we ran to Walmart a little after midnight and then into the city to hit Best Buy and then home to bed.  Now before you think that I'm totally crazy, those are normal operating hours for me.  I'm usually up that late anyway due to my work schedule.  It was fun and I did get a few good deals.

So how about you?  Do you join in on the Black Friday madness?  Remember this the last opportunity to post for a chance to win a set of Christmas tags.

Days of Thanks - Thanksgiving Day

Days of Thanks - November 23 - #2

My heart is so full right now that I decided to share another thankful post.  I am thankful for my little brother.  Now I have 4 little brothers and 6 little sisters and I'm so very thankful for all of them.  I forget to tell them how much they all mean to me.  But tonight, there is a special reason that I am thankful for this little brother.  Tommy has one of the most giving, generous hearts that I know.  So big and giving in fact that he and his family have given up much to leave America on Saturday and go to another country to bring their daughter home.

What's his daughter doing in another country you might ask?  Well several years ago, Tommy and Marian (oh yeah, she's his wife - lol), adopted a special young lady and brought her to America to be part of their family.  After living here for several months and before the adoption was finalized, the country she was from felt it would be in her best interest to return to her home country.  This was despite the fact that my new niece loved her family and wanted to stay with them.  Tommy and Marian, with breaking hearts, had to drive their daughter to the West Coast to get on a plane and leave them.  I know this seems like it only happens in stories, but this is truly what happened.

It is now time to return to that far away country and bring their daughter home.  They don't know how long it will take, or what obstacles they will have to hurdle.  They are going on a very limited budget, and could use far more, but they are going.  And I am thankful.  I love you both!

Days of Thanks - November 23

I am thankful that I have today off from work so that I can get ready for my guests.  I'm thankful that my nephew and his fiancee made it to his family, despite delays that left them spending the night in the airport. I am thankful for the Holy Spirit who convicts of sin that needs to be confessed.  I'm thankful for a God that sees the end of the problems that dear ones are going through and that He already has it worked out.  Right now my heart is so full with too much to share, but I am thankful.

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Giveaway

Next month I will be starting a series called "The 12 Days of Christmas Tags".  Now I know that there are other series following the "12 Days" of whatever on YouTube, but this one has a twist.  I'm not telling all my secrets yet but I would like to have a giveaway.  I will be giving away one set of these tags.  I had originally planned on starting the series earlier, but will not be able to start until sometime in December.  However, I want whoever wins these tags to have them early in the month.  Know what that means?  The person who wins these tags will get to see the WHOLE set before anyone else!  More information will follow so that you can play along with making tags.  I am hoping to be able to allow you to link your tags and show off the ones you make.  However, don't start early or you will completely miss the "twist".

Now for the giveaway.  As you should know, I have been listing things that I am thankful for throughout the month of November.  To enter the giveaway, this is what you need to do:
1.  Starting on today's thankful post, post one thing you are thankful for in the comment section.
2.  List one person on this post that you would like to be a blessing to during the Christmas season
3.  Comment on tomorrow's thankful post something else you are thankful for.
4.  Comment on Thursday's post something that you are thankful for.
5.  On Friday, tell me if you went shopping on not on the Black Friday Post.
6.  Become a follower.  If you are already a follower, just let me know that in a comment to this post.

Yes, that means you get 6 chances to win this contest.  Remember that I read all the comments before they can be viewed by others, so don't be alarmed if they don't immediately show up.  All comments should be made by 11:30 MST on Friday for the chance to win.  Your tags will not be sent to you until sometime in early December.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

Days of Thanks - November 22

Today I am thankful for a country that was founded on principals of religious freedom. I am thankful that I am free to worship God publicly and free to openly tell others about my God.

What are you thankful for today?

Days of Thanks - November 20

I haven't posted a Days of Thanks in a couple of days, but that doesn't mean I wasn't thankful. Daniel and I came home from our get-away on Friday. I am so thankful for the opportunity to spend a couple of days with my husband. I am thankful to the family who gave us the use of their timeshare for 2 days.

Yesterday, we went into the city so that Daniel and Heath could spend some good father-son time. While they were doing that, I went shopping for groceries for Thanksgiving and our family. I am thankful for God's provision. He has given us so much!

Today, I am thankful for the great day at church. We started with our normal Sunday School and AM Church service today. There was a special dinner after the AM service. Following the dinner, we watched the movie "Hometown Pride". It was very good. After getting home, I had a mailing to get ready for the mission office and bills to pay. I also made it through the entries in this week's Simply Sunday Challenge at Getting Cricky. I am thankful to be a part of this design team. I am also thankful that I was able to get so much done this evening.

Thanksgiving Place Cards - Getting Cricky Simply Sunday Challenge

Hello everyone.  It's time for another Simply Sunday Challenge at Getting Cricky.  Click the picture below to see the challenge post.

Today's challenge is to do a project reflecting something you are thankful for.  I chose my family.  Please watch the Video below for a complete tutorial for this project.

I chose to use 4 different  stamp sets from K. Andrew Designs.  Click on each picture below to look at these great stamps and to order.  Kristal does such a great job designing these stamps.  Plus a portion of the proceeds from each set is donated to charity.  They are made in America.

I hope you enjoy this project and video.  Thanks for watching.
